This guide provides instructions on sharing files or folders directly from your desktop using OneDrive.
- Recipients can be given read-only or write access.
- Sharing folders allows external parties to securely upload files to an Office 365 tenancy.
Note: Sharing files or folders with external recipients may be restricted based on Office 365 security policies.

Steps to Share Files or Folders
1. Locate the File or Folder
- Navigate to the file or folder you want to share, either from:
- Your personal OneDrive folder.
- A synced SharePoint library.
2. Right-Click and Select ‘Share’
- Right-click the file or folder and select Share from the context menu.
3. Configure Sharing Permissions
- In the Sharing window:
- Click the Link Settings button at the top to determine who can access the file or folder.
- Depending on your organisation's policies, you may be restricted from sharing with external or anonymous recipients.
- Consider the nature of the information being shared and assign permissions accordingly.
- Click the Link Settings button at the top to determine who can access the file or folder.
4. Set Editing Permissions
- By default, sharing gives recipients permission to edit the file or folder.
- When sharing a folder, recipients can edit, delete, or upload files.
- To restrict access to read-only, uncheck the Allow Editing checkbox.
5. Save Changes
- Click Apply to save any changes made in the link settings window.
6. Share the Resource
- There are two ways to share the file or folder:
