This guide outlines the steps to set up and enrol a Windows device with Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) and Microsoft Intune Mobile Device Management (MDM).

Preparation
- If the device is being re-issued or was previously on the company domain:
- Back up any required files.
- Reset the PC to factory settings:
- Navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC and select Remove everything.
- Ensure the following before starting:
- The device is connected to a wired network (if possible).
- The device is powered by mains electricity (if a laptop).
- No unnecessary peripherals (e.g., external screens, docking stations, printers) are connected.
Main Setup Steps
Initial Setup
- Turn on your computer and allow Windows to boot.
- Follow these prompts:
- Select your language, region, and keyboard layout, then click Yes.
- Connect to a network if prompted on the Let’s get you connected screen (or skip if already connected).
- Add additional keyboard layouts if needed, or click Skip.
- Windows will perform some basic setup tasks and reboot automatically.
Windows Configuration
- After the reboot, setup will continue. Follow these steps:
- Accept the Windows 10 License Agreement when prompted.
- Select Set up for an organization when asked how to set up the device.
- Log in with your Office 365/Azure AD username and password.
Multi-Factor Authentication (Optional)
- If your organization uses MFA, complete the authentication process to continue.
Autopilot Setup
- After signing in, you will see the Autopilot Setup page, where:
- The device joins Azure AD.
- The device enrols in Intune MDM.
- Settings and applications are configured based on your user account.
- During this phase:
- Expect the device to move through various loading or setup pages.
- The device may reboot multiple times.
- A screen inactivity lock may appear if left unattended; log back in with your credentials to view progress.
Personalization Settings
- Follow the prompts for personal preferences:
- Enable Activity History by clicking Yes.
- Configure voice recognition, location services, Find My Device, and diagnostics by clicking Accept for each option.
Completing Setup
- Once setup is complete:
- The device will load a standard Windows 10 desktop.
- Leave the device idle for at least 10 minutes to allow additional software or configuration to finish.
Final Steps
- Restart the device:
- Right-click the Start button, select Shut Down or Sign Out, and choose Restart.
- Install any pending Windows updates during the restart.
- Log in with your Office 365/Azure AD credentials to begin using the device.
Post-Setup Recommendations
- Customize your computer as needed.
- Plug in peripherals such as docking stations or external displays.
- Copy any migration data to the new device.
